Our Psychologists work with patients to identify and address issues that may be impacting negatively on their ability to cope with daily stressors (including pain), to interact positively with their environment, and to enjoy their lives, with the goal to help them achieve a more positive sense of well-being and positive mental health.
We use evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), that focuses on identifying and changing negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, so that clients can get a greater sense of control over their lives. CBT methods include relaxation techniques, reframing thoughts and feelings, sleep enhancement strategies, and setting achievable goals. Other services include helping clients learn to moderate their drinking or abstain, to quit smoking or other drug use, and mindfulness meditation, a form of mental training which helps clients learn how to reduce their stress, cope better with depression, anxiety or pain, and improve the quality of their life.
Our psychologists work closely with our Mindfulness Facilitator, so that pain patients received a combination of these treatments.
