A chiropractor is a health care provider specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular conditions, using various treatment techniques and tools to reduce pain and improve function.
Our chiropractors at The Pain and Wellness Centre can help patients of all walks of life relieve acute and chronic pain with the ultimate goal of improving functionality.
What do Chiropractors do?
Chiropractic is a health profession dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pain-related conditions from joints, muscles, tendons, and nerves. Chiropractors do not give out prescriptions or perform surgery. Rather, they use the most current evidence-based techniques to reduce pain and improve function, including exercise, manipulation or adjustments of the spine and other joints of the body, acupuncture, and soft tissue therapy.
The ultimate goal of chiropractic therapy is to help people reduce their pain and return to meaningful activities that they truly enjoy. At The Pain and Wellness Centre, we’ve gathered some of the best chiropractors in Vaughan - you can meet some of our team members by clicking here.
What to Expect in a Chiropractic Visit?
At The Pain and Wellness Centre, the first appointment with a chiropractor includes a comprehensive evaluation of the main area of pain that is troubling you. Lots of questions will be asked, so the Chiropractor can understand how you developed the pain, the type of pain you are experiencing, and patterns that make that pain better or worse. Other health-related questions may be asked about sleep, stress, your diet, and physical activity.
A physical assessment will follow after the history taking to evaluate the area of pain and other areas of the body that may contribute to the pain you are experiencing. You will be asked to display your range of motion through various movements, and various special tests will be performed, so that the Chiropractor can determine the cause of your problem.
Following the examination, the chiropractor will make a diagnosis, and educate the patient so they fully understand what they are experiencing and discuss the best recovery strategy for you. The chiropractor will then explain the potential risks of the proposed treatment and you will need to sign a consent form before beginning any treatment.
Many medical conditions such as knee, neck or low back pain can be successfully treated with chiropractic therapy. However, chiropractors and other healthcare practitioners can recommend a multi-disciplinary approach for a number of diagnoses. In these cases, the chiropractor would co-manage your therapy with other medical professionals to move you in the right direction to better health and pain relief.
