Dr. Ainsley Kempenaar
MD, FRCPC
Chronic Pain Assessment Practitioner

Dr. Kempenaar obtained her Honours Kinesiology degree from Queen’s University, followed by medical school at the University of Toronto. She completed her residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto, including a leadership term as Chief Resident when she was recognized with the Ontario Medical Association’s Resident Achievement Award for “outstanding contribution to the advancement of post-graduate training”. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and active member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Medical Association, the Ontario Medical Association, and the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Among her clinical and research interests, Dr. Kempenaar is passionate about “Exercise as Medicine”, born out of her years as a competitive gymnast and later academic pursuits examining movement as a therapeutic tool following mild traumatic brain injury. She has developed a strong appreciation for the interconnection between biological, psychological, and social factors in the development of acute and chronic pain conditions and seeks to help individuals implement evidence-based strategies toward optimal states of health, function, and quality of life.
Her comprehensive, compassionate, and collaborative approach to whole-person care immediately attracted Dr. Kempenaar to the Pain and Wellness Centre, and she was thrilled to begin working as a member of the team in January 2023.
